Two setup paths

Pair with your own server, or run Standalone.

Companion mode

Pairs with your Local Flight desktop app, Linux server, or Raspberry Pi over your own Wi-Fi/LAN. Scan the QR code from Settings, or enter the LAN address manually with the :8000 port. The paired server provides the board, radar, history, controls, reports, and LED matrix tools. Remote Companion can keep the same paired experience working away from Wi-Fi through encrypted relay fallback when the host is online.

Standalone mode

Connects directly to the optional Beacon Tools shared service for a simplified board, radar, weather, history, settings, and reports. Your desktop, Linux server, or Raspberry Pi does not need to be online.

Board

Airport header, weather strip, pinned flight, compact rows, local/UTC time, and passenger-friendly status labels.

Radar

Nearby traffic uses the same 15-second sweep-and-fade behavior as desktop and LAN views. Tap a target for its loaded track details, then close it without selecting another aircraft. Data comes from your paired host or the shared service, depending on setup mode.

History

Companion reads your server history. Standalone keeps recent movement history locally on the phone.

Home-screen widget

iOS and Android can show a small pinned-flight or airport-board glance from the app's latest saved snapshot. The widget does not contact the shared service or flight providers on its own.

Reports

Manual reports are always user-triggered. Automatic crash diagnostics only run when your mobile diagnostics choice allows them.

Optional support

Three one-time App Store/Play support choices can help fund the shared project. They unlock nothing, use store-localized prices, and never add ads or tracking.

Standalone limits

Standalone updates more carefully.

The shared service spaces requests out so it remains sustainable for everyone.

  • Standalone board updates use a 3-hour cadence rather than rapid polling.
  • Standalone radar updates use a 5-minute cadence while visible.
  • Standalone radar ranges are limited to 1, 3, 5, and 10 nautical miles.
  • Standalone does not include LED matrix controls, server maintenance controls, or LAN control panels.

Not for professional or safety-critical aviation use

Local Flight Mobile is an informational display aid only. Flight, radar, weather, map, and relay data may be delayed, incomplete, cached, wrong, or unavailable. Do not use it for navigation, dispatch, operational control, flight planning, professional aviation work, or safety decisions.

Privacy model

No accounts, no advertising software, and no cross-app tracking. Companion talks to your own host first; Remote Companion carries encrypted paired-host messages when LAN is unavailable. Standalone uses the shared service and keeps its history on the phone. See the privacy policy and privacy choices.
